Sustainable Parking Lot and Entry Signage

The University of St. Francis, located in Joliet, Illinois, is  a growing campus near downtown. Upland Design was brought in to overhaul the main vehicular entrance to the Motherhouse and Welcome Center. To meet expanding parking needs as well as a drop off to the Welcome Center, Upland Design worked with staff to provide an economical solution on the uniquely shaped site. The University also desired to lead by example with sustainable practices by including permeable pavers in the parking lot, LED lighting, and onsite detention.  All of these were incorporated into the plans while creating a welcoming space for visitors, students and staff.

A new gateway sign was added at the corner of Route 30 and Taylor Street that ties into the historic stone architecture of the Motherhouse. Landscaping at the building entry, sign and perimeter of the parking lot provide a welcoming but low maintenance backdrop to the facility.
