This 78-acre peninsula was purchased by the Forest Preserve in 2003. Upland Design worked close with the Forest Preserve and architect, Partners & Sirny, to meet site planning goals with an overall master plan. These goals included creating an environmental learning center, a multi-use trail system, outdoor education sites, canoe access, auto access and public picnic sites.
The land is located at the confluence of the DuPage River and Des Plaines River just north of the Illinois River on the I & M Canal. Planning included understanding the access points, views, natural resources, topography, and public use.
Phase I site construction designed by Upland Design included the building entry, seat walls, paths, parking lot and riverside access.
