Upland Design led the master plan process along with the development of construction documents and construction administration for the renovation and expansion of the outdoor intramural recreation facilities at Northern Illinois University Campus in DeKalb, Illinois.
The project began with 20 acres of existing fields with a 19 acre expansion during the planning and development phase. This facility is now the central outdoor intramural space for the 24,000 students on campus. To meet the needs of the diverse population, each field area is designed as multi-use space for lacrosse, soccer, flag football, ultimate frisbee, baseball, softball, quiddich and rugby. Paved walks are incorporated throughout making the site accessible and the loop trail around the facility is an added outdoor walking / jogging path for students. Additional amenities include pedestrian and sports lighting, field irrigation and drainage, shaded meeting areas, fencing, site furniture, and a support building with restrooms, meeting space and storage.
