Peck Farm has become a community treasure with its historic farmstead, native prairie and wetlands. Upland Design assisted the Park District enhancing the site over the past five years. First, an outdoor meeting space and classroom size overlook deck was added on the north side of Peck Lake. The materials include recycled lumber deck and rails along with concrete piers. Interpretive signage and built in benches make the space a place for all to enjoy.
Next, renovation of the much loved butterfly house was needed. New stamped concrete paths were added along with seat walls, bench areas and a drainage system to keep the walks dry after rain events.
Finally, the District requested another outdoor meeting space to create an outdoor theater and fire pit. The new area is set within the foot print of a long ago lost barn. Seat walls are made of limestone and look out to the reestablished Prairie. The pavement material is permeable concrete pavers and fits into the site by matching the existing brick colors.
Peck Farm continues to be a wonder to the generations that visit and now has more comfortable spaces for the community to enjoy.
