Courtyard Plaza, Entry Garden & Rooftop Garden:
Louisville, Kentucky
Martha collaborated with an architecture firm on the patient centered design for a series of landscaped gardens and rooftop garden at an infill hospital site. The architecture provides views from indoor waiting rooms. Martha’s designs create comfortable outdoor seating options for families, staff and patients. Plantings and green wall features help to soften and cool the building surface adjacent to chemotherapy treatment rooms. A main entry garden includes a path, perennial beds and benches.

Martha was the project manager responsible for the design and installation oversight of a natural woodland, prairie and wetland setting for children from preschool to elementary school. The project included classroom gardens where younger children planted and tended vegetables. Older children studied the various plant communities and were responsible for the community garden. Council rings and open lawn areas served as outdoor classrooms.
