Hiawatha Park Playground & Splash Pad

Working with community members, the alderman and the Chicago Park District, Upland Design created an innovative playground design that incorporates vibrant play equipment and poured rubber mounds to create a unique and exciting experience.

Undulating mounds and ramps connect climbers and slides to each other and the shade plaza. Kids can loop through the area as they explore and challenge themselves on the varying sizes of climbers and balancing events. The new playground also includes traditional swings, a tire swing and an accessible seat swing. A play panel house with talk tubes provide a quiet 2-5 year old play zone.

The new central shade plaza provides a drinking fountain, tables, 20’ cantilevered shade sail and new splash pad. The splash pad gives the neighborhood kids a place to get cool with two cycled features that the kids can turn on with a foot button.
