Hoover Forest Preserve and Fox River Trail

Hoover Forest Preserve, a former Boy Scout campground, was purchased by the Kendall County Forest Preserve District with the intention of making it an accessible public camp ground, an outdoor education center, and a major link along the regional multi-use Fox River Trail. With over 50’ of grade change from the parking lot to the Fox River overlook, ADA design was a big part of the project. At the same time, protection of archeological sites as well as native species were key components for planning and construction. Upland Design assisted in the master planning process, OSLAD grant presentation materials and implementation of the plan.

Project components include:

  • Mile trail along the Fox River
  • Fishing Deck at the Fox River
  • Overlook Deck at Bluff
  • Woodland Classroom Area
  • Four Group Camp Sites – all accessible
  • 20-single camp sites – 2 accessible
  • 70-car Parking Lot with Bio-Swales
  • Site Way- Finding Signage
  • Stormwater Management with Native Plantings
