West Chicago Stairs
Downtown West Chicago is part of the Turner Junction Historic District. When two sets of stairs and their adjacent streetscape needed renovation, the City brought in Upland Design to create designs to improve aesthetics, meet current ADA requirements and fit into the local Historic District. The implemented designs include new paving, stairs, railings, limestone walls, and plant material, all adjacent to privately owned buildings. The larger north stair has a fountain and seating at the Main Street side of the stair. Both the City and the West Chicago Historical Preservation Commission were involved during the design process.
