Columbus Manor was completely renovated over a two year period with two phased projects. The first phase included renovation of pathways, a new playground, musical play space and shelter. The second phase includes renovation of the ballfield dugouts, drinking fountains, a new splash pad, fitness area, sensory garden and basketball court. The Park District was awarded an IAPD Gametime grant in 2017 for development of a highly inclusive playground. Upland Design worked closely with the Park District as well as Game Time representatives to refine the play equipment for just the right elements. The new playground includes a ramped entry with rubber surface mounding as well as poured in place rubber surfacing throughout. Play equipment was designed to expand the play for all users including spinning, sliding, swinging, climbing, sound, texture, and quiet spots to step away from the play.
